Growing Great Garlic for Veterans

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County Master Gardeners on Thursday October 20th at 5:30pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County for a veterans only, hands-on, training focused on growing great garlic. By planting only 6 inches apart this crop can be grown intensively and yield a large harvest in small spaces. Learn what it takes to grow great heads of garlic in your own garden. We will start by visiting the Heritage Vegetable Garden in Cutler Botanic Gardens and be guided by Broome County Master Gardeners on the proper process for bed preparation and planting of garlic. Afterwards we will move inside to discuss planting, growing, harvesting, curing and preserving techniques will all be discussed. Veterans will bring home some garlic to plant in their gardens. Pre-registration is required. This workshop is geared towards veterans who are looking to start, or expand, their gardening efforts in Broome County. This workshop is for military veterans who reside in Broome County only. 

The funding supporting this workshop comes from Broome County Veterans Services Registration is limited to 15 participants to ensure a quality experience. Questions and follow-up by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County will help us determine final eligibility to attend and participate in this workshop.
