Tick Awareness Workshop

Lyme disease along with several other tick borne diseases, are increasing in New York through an increase in tick numbers and humans coming in contact with them.  In 2017, the New York State Senate Task Force on Lyme and tick borne diseases funded New York State Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to create a tick outreach and education program titled “Don’t Get Ticked- New York”.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga, Tompkins and Seneca Counties are providing a regional awareness campaign to increase public awareness of ticks and the diseases they may carry along with their management in the southern Finger Lakes region.

Judy Wright, Agriculture Extension Educator with Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension, will provide a presentation focused on tick habitat, their biology and control.  Also invited are county department of health officials to provide educational information along with other area providers.  The overall goal of the Don’t Get Ticked workshop is to help keep people and their companion animals from being bitten by a tick.

The Tompkins County workshop, held in Ithaca, on January 26th had over 75 participates.
