Commercial Pruning of Tall Spindle Apple Trees

Calling all commercial fruit & vegetable producers!

Come experience hands-on learning of fruit tree pruning from the expert orchardist, Walt Blacker, at local Apple Acres’ orchards. We will go out to the orchard to experience hands-on learning of fruit tree pruning. Cornell Professor Terence Robinson will lead the pruning workshop. Professor Robinson is a recognized fruit crop physiologist at Cornell AgriTech (New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, Geneva, NY).  His goal is to solve practical fruit production problems that will increase the profitability and strength of the New York fruit industry and fruit growers around the world with his program being largely field oriented and of an applied nature.

This workshop will not teach the pruning of traditional apple trees but rather specifically focus on the pruning of Tall Spindle Apple Trees, more commonly grown by commercial apple producers at the present time.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, February 21st from 9:00am - 12:00pm at Apple Acres (4633 US-20, Lafayette, NY 13084).

The workshop is free to attend.

We will be out in the orchard so please dress for the weather!
