Spring Gardening Open House

Come and talk one-on-one with Master Gardeners and other experts on all kinds of topics pertaining to gardening. More in-depth presentations held upstairs. (See descriptions below). Class sizes are limited so pre-registration required. There is no limit to number of classes you may take. Includes admission to one or all presentations and information hand-outs from all exhibitors.

Presentations being held throughout the morning:

The Importance of Native Plants (9:15 a.m. Large Conference Room) Learn how important native plant species are for the ecology of even small urban landscapes. Taught by Master Gardeners Karen Anderson and Jenna Cook. Pre-registration is required.

Beneficial Insects and How to Attract Them (10:00 a.m. Large Conference Room) Learn about a variety of “good bugs” and the types of plants you can grow to attract them to your yard. Extension Program Educator Linda Svoboda. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required.

Perennial Gardening (10:45 Lawrence Conference Room) Do you love the look of a garden in bloom, but hate having to buy annuals each year? Then a Perennial Garden is ideal! Plant and watch them return year after year.  Learn about planting and growing perennial plants. Taught by Master Gardener Tony Antes. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required.

Protect Your Trees from Invasive Insects- Information for Homeowners (11:00 a.m. Technology Room)

Left untreated your hemlock or ash trees will likely be killed by the non-native, invasive insects Emerald Ash Borer and Hemlock Wooly Adelgid - learn about these pests and the options you have to save your trees. Extension Resource Educator Kevin Mathers. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required.

Seed Starting (11:45 Technology Room) Learn all you need to know to start your own garden vegetable or flower plants from seed indoors.  Taught by Master Gardener Joe Kille. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required.
