Thank you for your interest in attending the small ruminant parasite workshop!
In this workshop, producers will learn the basics of parasite control as well as how to develop integrated parasite management programs for their farms. We will also provide hands-on training on how to use the FAMACHA© Anemia Card (good only for the barber pole worm) as part of a 5-point check to determine which animals in your herd or flock most likely need deworming. This workshop will also include hands-on training on doing fecal egg counts.You are welcome to bring a refrigerated fecal sample of 8 to 10 fecal pellets from one sheep or goat at your farm to the workshop.

Tentative Schedule:
9:45 am – Registration and filling out of pre-quizzes (fun!)
10:00 am - Introductions (describe your farm and any parasite problems experienced)
10:15 am - Current situation/Knowing the problem
11:30 am - Know your tools Management practices, evasive grazing, selective deworming, etc.
12:45 pm – Lunch
1:15 pm - What’s new in parasite management?
2:15 pm - Hands-on FAMACHA© scoring, 5 point checks and fecal egg counting.
3:30 pm – Break into small groups to discuss future parasite programs, turn in post-quizzes and get FAMACHA certificates signed
4:00 pm – Adjourn
$7 per individual plus $13 per farm for a FAMACHA© card (if you already have a FAMACHA card in good shape and are using this as a refresher, you may bring your card).
Please plan on packing your own lunch and drinks to bring. Coffee will be provided.
In the interest of biosecurity, please wear clean clothes and shoes to the workshop and plan to change them prior to doing your own farm chores
