The NYS Sustainable Business Conference is offering a variety of pre-congress workshops in multiple areas on interest.

I. New York Cooperative Network: Organizing and Strategic Planning Meeting
Time: 10:30am-4:30pm Cost: FREE
Join us for strategic planning, and organizing the next steps, towards establishing a regional or statewide cooperative business association, coordinating with the National Cooperative Business Association, looking forward to another day-long Summit conference event in 2015, and determining how our resources and contacts can best be put to use in our goal of a solidarity social economy.
II. Zero Waste/GrassRoots Recycling Network workshop Presenter: Gary Liss 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm Price (any other particulars): $59 + $20 if certification is desired
Zero Waste Businesses are leading the way to Zero Waste and have diverted over 90% of their waste from landfill and incineration. Zero Waste Communities have adopted Zero Waste goals and plans to implement those goals. Join leading Zero Waste expert Gary Liss to understand how Zero Waste can be a key part of business and community sustainability plans, help contribute to reducing greenhouse gases, enhance efficiency, and improve the triple bottom line for businesses.
This is an Introduction to Zero Waste for those who are currently actively working towards Zero Waste or higher waste diversion, or working on climate change or sustainability plans in their business or community. This training class will provide you with cutting edge knowledge of one of the hottest topics in the field today. The GrassRoots Recycling Network offers an optional Certificate of Completion for this class.
A class project will involve the participants in tackling a real world example of how to get to Zero Waste. Participants will work to develop a Zero Waste Plan for a business based on the principles learned in class.
III. B Corps, Benefit Corporations, and Social Enterprise: Strategies for Planning, Financing, and Measuring Impact Presenter: Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at SUNY Buffalo State Time: 1pm-4pm Cost: FREE
We will walk participants through the process of using B Lab’s “B Impact Assessment” to measure the social and environmental impacts of your business, and show how this free assessment tool can be used for internal benchmarking, creating social and environmental impact projections, and as a way to identify opportunities and strategies to improve business impact over time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets so they make take the B Impact Assessment themselves during the workshop.
