Beginning Farmer Learning Circle & Networking

THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF REGISTRATIONS. IT WILL BE RESCHEDULED IN SUMMER 2023

Have you been contemplating getting into farming but aren't sure just where to start? Or maybe you've been farming for a few years and are looking to connect with USDA or other ag support organizations to level up your farm business. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, in partnership with American Farmland Trust - NY's Farmland for a New Generation program and Broome County Farm Bureau, is excited to welcome any new and beginning farmers to a learning circle and networking session at Water Street Brewing Co (168 Water St, Binghamton) on Tuesday March 14th starting at 5:30pm. We'll cover a bunch of topics, including:

  • How to Start a Farm, Right to Farm, Ag Districts, Guide to Farming in NYS, Permits & Licenses
  • Risk Management (Insurance)
  • Accessing USDA Resources (Farm Service Agency, Soil & Water Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, etc….)

A beginning farmer is someone who has been farming for ten years or less. And a farmer according to the USDA has earned at least $1000 from sales of products from their land. Are either of these you?!

We'll leave plenty of time for networking with all the agencies and organizations in attendance, as well as with your peers.

Food and drinks will be provided, but beer is on your own! Water Street is a NYS Farm Brewery and has some amazing beers on tap.

RSVP is required by March 10th for food planning purposes, as well as to ensure we have enough seating.

Cost is $25 for two attendees so bring your spouse, child, partner, or friend who wants to help you alongside your farm dream!

Questions can be directed to Laura Biasillo at lw257@cornell.edu.
