Volunteer for 4-H Fair Judging

First let me say this is a really, really, fun thing to do!  You never know what these kids are going to say.  The older youth will amaze you with their talent and the little ones will leave you smiling because they are just so stinkin' cute!

In 2021 we are doing Boonville Fair judging slightly different than normal.

Instead of holding one judging night where a mob of people show up all at once.  We are stretching the event out over several days and allowing the youth to schedule a specific time to come in and have their projects reviewed.

What to expect:  Youth will come to you with their projects. ( They could bring one or several).  They could be posters, photography, food, Arts and Crafts......  your job is to simply talk to the kids about their projects.  Why-Did you plant a cactus and water lily in the same container? Why did you do what you did? Where- Was this photo taken? Where did you find inspiration?  How-did you decide to use this design or color combination?  Who- were you inspired by, a specific artist or did you reach out to someone to help you with this project?  What- was easiest, hardest, would you do over?  When- Did you start working on this project?  It seems rushed or you really took your time the details show.

While this is an opportunity to teach youth about completing projects on time, bringing your best work forward, and being detail oriented, this is equally an opportunity to allow youth the ability to share their thoughts and ideas with an adult.  We are trying to prepare youth for future job or college interviews. Building confidence and encouragement are #1.

Yes, you will fill out evaluation forms for each project

Yes, you will be attaching a Blue, Red, or White ribbon

No, you do not need to be an expert in anything except wanting to encourage kids to try new things, being a positive adult.   In fact the less you know the more you can ask the kids to explain.

CCE Staff Please check with your Managers prior to registering to help!

On the registration you will be asked to pick dates and times you are available.  I will match these up with the days the kids picked.

For those who volunteer I will meet with you to explain in more detail after July 1st as that is the deadline for the kids to register their projects.

If you have any questions come see me.
