Inspired by Annie's Project: Communications, Health & Safety on the Farm
Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm
Finch Hollow Nature Center (1394 Oakdale Rd, Johnson City)
Youth ages 5 years old and up welcome for concurrent youth sessions!

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension educators for an Inspired by Annie's Project four week series focused on enhancing your communication skills, and health and safety on your farm. Annie’s Project is taught by trained facilitators and is designed for farm women who have been in farming, or agri-business, or part of the food system for three to five years, and want to develop their understanding, interpretation, and opportunities in sustainable agriculture. Annie’s Project gives farm women the opportunity to learn from female agricultural professionals and network with other women in similar situations.

Inspired by Annie's Project - Communications, Health & Safety on the Farm will take participants through a four week journey addressing all aspects health and safety on the farm, as well as communications and navigating difficult conversations. At the end of the four weeks participants will --

  • Learn how to conduct a safety assessment on-farm and identify risk mitigation strategies
  • Learn about using more ergonomic practices for increased health on the farm
  • Understand different communication styles and how to approach difficult conversations
  • Learn how to use the Real Colors model to encourage more productivity and less stressful work environment on the farm
  • Understand the resources available to support them in the areas of health, wellness, and safety
  • Form a peer to peer network with other farm women in the area

Each week while the farm women are at their sessions, CCE staff will offer concurrent sessions for youth focused on farm first aid, healthy eating and cooking, stress relief and natural resources. Ages 5 and up are invited to attend from farm families to help facilitate attendance by farm women.

Commitment to the series is for all four sessions. The cost is $35 for the four-part series and registration is limited to enhance group discussions. The cost includes a light dinner and drinks for both the farm women and youth, copies of all presentations and worksheets, and support from a variety of community partners. The cost also includes registration for up to 3 youth from the farm. The series will take place on Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm, September 13th, 20th, 27th & Oct 11th at Finch Hollow Nature Center (1394 Oakdale Rd, Johnson City, NY).
