Canning & Preserving the Harvest

Join Ann Supa, Master Preserver at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, as she leads attendees through three different food preservation techniques, including dehydration and hot water bath canning. Participants will also learn basic food safety principles to set up for success in the kitchen. We will be making jerky and pickles in addition to a fresh salsa. This workshop will take place inside the Broome County Regional Farmers Market on Saturday October 30th from 1-6pm. Participants are invited to join us at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market prior to the workshop to shop at the farmers market for ingredients using market bucks provided through this program. Attendees will take home what they make at the class and the recipe(s). This workshop is geared towards those who have an interest in preserving the harvest, whether from their garden, hunting, or fishing.

The funding supporting this workshop comes from the FarmOps program at Cornell University and targets active service members & military veterans only who reside in NY or NJ. Registration is limited to 15 and will fill up quickly. Questions and follow-up by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County will help us determine final eligibility to attend and participate in this workshop.
