Onondaga Youth Tractor Safety Certification Course

The Hazardous Occupation in agriculture Law requires that youth ages 14-16 must have at least 24 hours of tractor safety and maintenance instruction in order to drive a tractor on a farm other than that owned by their parents.

Onondaga CCE will be conducting a Tractor Safety Certification Course for Youth in May 2017 to fulfill these requirements. This course will cover  many components of agriculture safety.  The course will be open to all youth.  Classes will be held Wednesday evenings as follows: May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th, May 24th, and May 31st.  The certification exams will be given on Wednesday June 7th.  Classes will be held from 5-9pm at a variety of host locations including local farms, Cazenovia Equipment and a local fire department.  Class members are required to attend all of the classes and actively participate.

Cost of the class will cover all course materials. Light dinner provided.

Youth starting at age 12 may take the course.  Certification is required for youth 14 and 15 years old.  Those younger may take the class but may not become certified.  Older youth may take the class but certification is not required after age 15.
