American Farmland Trust’s national Women for the Land initiative addresses the obstacles that women landowners face in accessing conservation programs and resources.
A key part of Women for the Land initiative involves hosting “learning circles” that empower women landowners to adopt environmentally sound farming practices, protect farmland, and improve the viability of their farms.
Please join us for the Women for the Land Conservation Learning Circle - Woodlot Management, held at: Off Duty, 5184 State Route 244, Belmont, NY 14813 on October 16, 2018 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.
Women Farmland Owners with an interest in Woodlot Management are invited to participate in a Learning Circle. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about basic concepts in woodlot management through discussion with other women woodlot owners, master forest owner volunteers and conservation professionals. We will start the discussion with a Woods Walk for:
- a close-up view of some sustainable woodlot management practices in action
- learning how to use a Biltmore stick to estimate timber quantities
Following a light supper we will continue discussion to share experiences with:
- timber stand improvement
- contracts
- taxes
- where to seek woodlot management assistance and information
Learning circle cost is $10.00 per person and includes educational materials and a light supper.
