2021 Conservation Education Days Registration 1

Welcome to the 2021 Virtual Conservation Education Days Registration.

For more than 55 years Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County and the Oneida County Youth Bureau have been hosting the Conservation Education Days field trip at Delta Lake State Park for 6th grade students.

For the health and safety of ALL the 2020 event was cancelled.

This year ONLY we are offering this event virtually for both 6th and 7th grade students.  The program will focus on providing youth a better understanding of the ecological balance among humans, wildlife, forest, soil and waters of New York State. We will also feature outdoor activities available in New York State and spotlight a variety of conservation career opportunities.

Because we know how busy and crazy you are, the 8-12 minute videos can be viewed with your class at a time of your choosing, between September 20th and October 18th.

NEW THIS YEAR!!!!

We want your students to be inspired.

We have several $100.00 grants available for schools to use towards the start-up of a conservation project in their school.  Schools will be awarded on a 1st come/completion basis.  (One grant per school)

There are a few requirements in order to receive the grant AND participate in this program, by registering your class for this event you agree to the following…

a.    Encourage all my students to complete the pre/post test.
Conservation Education days asks teachers to submit a 12 question true/false pre and post test to each student in their class. A link will be sent to you the beginning of September to have your students submit their answers on the pre-test prior to starting the program and then administer the post-test on completion of the program. Testing will be done using Google DOCS and must be completed by October 20, 2021.

b.    Encourage all my students to submit a poster “What I learned at Conservation Education Days”
The grand prize this year has been updated to include a 1 week summer camp adventure for 1 student in each grade. Donated by NYSDEC Summer Camps Program.  A camping package donated by the Oneida County Federated Sportsmans club of a sleeping bag and camping supply’s and a framed wildlife print by Tom Yacovella, dedicated in his memory by the CNY Youth Fishing Educators. The grand prize winners as well as several runners up from each school will receive a 1 year subscription to the Environmentalist magazine donated by the Oneida County Sportsmans Club (Posters must be returned to CCE Oneida County by November 15, 2021)

c.     And agree to submitting a demographic survey of their students which will be sent to each teacher that has registered.  The return of this information is a required for our federal reporting numbers. (An on-line link will be e-mailed to you to submit the demographics)

Participation in the poster contest, student participation in the pre/post test AND the return of the demographics by each teacher is mandatory for any school that receives a $100 grant.

*Note*  Participation in the grant is optional and not mandatory to participate in 2021 Conservation Education Days.  (this is NOT a cumbersome grant to fulfill, see outline below)

If your school receives the $100 Grant your students must agree to:

1. Submit an Outline/ Proposal of their project and how your school will use the $100 grant.

2. Submit a video showing the project in action with before and after results noted.

We expect to have over 1,000 youth participate in this virtual event.  Please make sure your details are correct before submitting your application for your class.

We hope you and your students enjoy the 2021 Conservation Education Days Virtual Program
