Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County, 4-H Youth Development, and the Madison County FFA are pleased to offer a collaborative tractor safety certification program. This course is open to 14 - 19 years old. The program will take place the week of June 7-12th. This six session course will cover many aspects of farm safety with an emphasis on safety operating farm equipment and safety around animals.
To successfully complete the program, participants must attend all sessions and pass both a written exam and a practical driving test. Participants will have the opportunity to practice driving tractors and skidsteers on Thursday night and again on Saturday. These driving sessions are highly encouraged to ensure that everyone is comfortable operating equipment before the mandatory driving test. Upon successful completion of the test, participants will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor. Employers are required by law to ask for this certificate before hiring a 14 or 15 year old to work on their farm.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have decided to host the course in one location this year. This will help us to provide a safe place for the 2021 Agricultural and Tractor Safety Certification Program.
