With lambing and kidding season upon us, it is time to brush-up on lambing and kidding knowledge so that you can properly respond to needs that arise this season.
Join CCE Cortland, and Cornell University researchers Dr. Niko Kochendoerfer & Dr. tatiana Stanton, for Lambing and Kidding Part 1: Presentation & Discussion (with ample time given for Q&A and discussion). This 1.5-hour workshop, scheduled for February 6th from 10 – 11:30, will cover the following topics.
- Methods to manage birthing efficiently without sacrificing animal wellbeing
- Common ailments of newborns
- Successful methods to foster kids and lambs
- Basics of lambing and kidding (birthing supplies, stages of lambing, basic care of dam and offspring, when and how to intervene).
- Ketosis, milk fever, etc. in females
- Ways to manage birth safely yet efficiently
- Metabolic diseases of late pregnancy, early lactation does and ewes or diseases of newborns
- Labor-saving practices for handling lambing and kidding and artificial rearing
(Once we are able to have in-person events a hands-on demonstration "Part 2" will be scheduled).
