Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event for Cayuga County

The annual fall Cayuga County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) day event is a great opportunity for all Cayuga County residents to properly dispose of common (and sometimes not so common) household hazardous wastes FOR FREE! This proper disposal protects human health, our community and the environment.
If you do not have an email account, please call: 315-255-1183 or stop into the office to register. Registration is required as well as having an entrance ticket. If you do not have a printer but do have an email please continue with registration and then call to obtain an entrance ticket. At the end of the registration process you will be presented (both in the thank you message as well as a confirmation email) with the link to print out the entrance ticket.
Acceptable Household Hazardous Wastes include:
- Products containing chemicals
- OIL BASED paints and stains
- Turpentine, paint thinners, brush cleaners
- Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides (insect, weed and fungus killers)
- Mercury thermometers and barometers
- Liquid mercury (quick silver)
- Florescent tubes
- Driveway sealer
- Household cleaners
- Gasoline
- Gas/oil, oil/water, gas/water mixtures
- Antifreeze
- Mothballs
- Smoke detectors
- Pool Chemicals
- Photograph developing chemicals
- Grill size propane tanks
- We are now accepting latex and water-based paints
Look for warnings like "danger" "toxic" or "reactive".
NOT ACCEPTED:
Electronics Asbestos
Freon Appliances Medical & Infectious Waste
Alkaline Batteries Used Motor Oil
Rechargeable Batteries Radioactive Waste
CFL Bulbs Explosives, Ammunition and Ordinances
Tires DEA controlled substances
Compressed gas cylinders (other than propane or helium) Type A or B organic substances (substances on the NYSDOT SADT list).
You MUST be a Cayuga County resident or dropping off waste for a Cayuga County resident to participate in this event.

Resources for Farms and Businesses to Dispose of Hazardous Waste:
CleanSweepNY hosts annual events to collect pesticides and other waste chemicals from farms, all categories of NYS certified pesticide applicators, cemeteries, golf courses, marinas, schools, landscapers and lawncare providers, nurseries, greenhouses, and other entities. They typically rotate the event each year to a different location.
