Garden-Based Learning Short Course - Spring 2023

CCE - Nassau Garden-Based Learning Short Courses

The Garden-Based Learning Short Course is designed to provide gardeners with the skills and resources to improve their home gardening techniques. Maintaining your own landscape is a cost-effective way to improve your home aesthetic, while enjoying time outdoors and exercising. Residents may also find enjoyment in growing their own fresh produce to supplement their trips to the grocery store or even share with neighbors. The Garden-Based Learning Short Course is an excellent opportunity to explore your interests in a supportive, educational environment.

Program Design:

Each Garden-Based Learning Short Course is four-weeks long and provides in-depth training on specific horticultural topics. Weekly hands-on workshops will be provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County staff and trained Master Gardener Volunteers. Weekly workshops will be supplemented with reading assignments and educational videos posted through the Cornell Distance Learning Center platform (Moodle).

Completion of Requirements:

Participants who successfully meet all of the requirements of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Nassau County Garden-Based Learning Short Course will receive a Certificate of Completion to add to their personal or professional portfolio. Completion of a Garden-Based Learning Short Course will provide homeowners with the confidence to tackle their own projects and provide them with credibility that can lead to opportunities to provide horticultural guidance throughout the community.

To earn a certificate of completion, participants must complete the entire course and actively participate in workshops. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled workshops to be eligible to receive a certificate of completion.
