Our Fruit Pruning Workshop is back, with two dates this year! Workshops will be from 9:00am-12:00pm on March 19th or 26th, at Apples and Moore: 2750 Apple Lane, Watkins Glen. Learn how to care for your fruits from Alec Moore and Rick Reisinger. We will focus on pruning apple trees, but other fruit varieties and management aspects will be covered. Beginner pruners, small-scale commercial producers, and every skill level in between are welcome. Workshops will be held rain or shine, dress for the weather, we will be outside the entire time. Cost to attend is $25 for single registration and $40 for double registration.
The following topics will be covered during the workshop:
· Demonstration of pruning techniques for apples, pears, plums, cherries, peaches, and apricots (with a focus on apple trees)
· Identifying fruit buds and vegetative buds
· Assessing the current season’s buds
· Type of pruning cuts
· Best tools to use
· Timing for different species
· Selecting the best planting sites and basic care instructions
· Learning basic propagation (chip budding)
· Nuisance animal control options
