HOME/PRIVATE SCHOOL Farm to School Garden Kits '24

For a fifth year in a row, CCE Seneca continues offering home garden kits to families and the community as a collaboration of Farm to School, the Seneca County Master Gardener Program, and 4-H Youth Development. The home garden kits are funded through a Farm to School grant from NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, a Seneca County recycling grant, and the Seneca County Master Gardener program, with much time and care put into this program from CCE Seneca staff and Master Gardener volunteers.

This year’s garden kit features veggie and herb seeds perfect for snacking and making pickles! A cherry tomato blend, pickling cucumbers, green beans, and carrots will be great to snack on right out of the garden or paired with a dip made using some of your own fresh dill. If you tire of having a bounty of fresh and delicious healthy snacks at your fingertips, then the dill leaves and flowers can also be used to make your favorite pickled veggies to enjoy later, whether it be traditional pickles, dilly beans, or a garden mix. In addition, dill flowers are great alongside the cosmos and bachelor’s button flowers that will attract pollinators to your garden and make beautiful summer bouquets.

To give you a little courage to start your gardening journey and boost your confidence that you too can have a green thumb, the CCE Seneca staff have provided growing information for each seed variety and helpful gardening tips for “How to Grow Your Garden”. Resources for safely preserving your garden produce and guidance on making simple, yet beautiful bouquets are also included. Each kit comes in a reusable bag made from recycled materials that will be perfect for easily carrying your garden harvest or shopping at your local Farmers Market.

CCE Seneca will also offer more gardening tips and updates on growing, harvesting, and eating your garden-fresh produce through our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CCEsenecaF2S) and website (www.senecacountycce.org) as well as cooking classes and food preservation workshops throughout the season.

*Please register only 1 kit per family*
