Total Solar Eclipse Cereal Box Viewer Workshop

On April 8, 2024, we will be on the trajectory for The Great North American Eclipse. What is a solar eclipse? Simply put, it is where the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun.
This eclipse will be one for the ages as the next one that can be seen from the contiguous US will occur 20 years from now. But on Monday, April 8th, it will be visible in Mexico, Canada and the United States. More importantly, in Rockland County, we will see a partial total eclipse between the hours of 2:10 pm to 4:30 pm.
Even in our partial view of the total eclipse, you must be mindful of protecting your eyes. Remember: “Never look directly into the sun!” What can you do to safely see how the moon hides the sun? Our answer: make your own Cereal Box Viewer.
To show you how to make this special viewer, George M. will be giving a session on how to construct a cereal box viewer at the Cornell Cooperative Extension on Thursday, April 4th at 2pm. Materials needed: 1 cereal box per attendee.
Bring your enthusiasm! The result? With your own hand-made Cereal Box Viewer on your eyes, you’ll be able to safely see the eclipse!
