Cuisine & Culture:Discover Cheese

Did you know that New York State ranks 4th in the country for cheese making? Join the Erie County 4-H program on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 6:30 pm to learn how to make cheese! The second workshop in the  4-H Cuisine & Culture series,  Discover Cheese will feature Jenny McKenna, Cheese Maker at Eden Valley Creamery via live Zoom.  Jenny will  share the background of Eden Valley Creamery, lead a virtual tour of the creamery, and guide participants in a cheese tasting. Each lesson includes an activity box that must be picked up prior to the virtual lesson. After Jenny’s introduction and virtual tour, youth will be guided in a food science activity making fresh cheese in their home kitchen.  Participants will be asked to supply the milk and a microwave, while the kit will supply all other ingredients.

Each 4-H workshop in this series includes a recipe and lesson materials, as well as a virtual local tour or Zoom speaker to guide the lesson. Upcoming workshops  include Ancient Food and Fiber: Wheat and Wool, and  Food of the Future: Hydroponics.  Other dates and themes will be announced as they are planned.

You must be enrolled in Erie County 4-H to participate and the cost to participate is $7  per activity kit (activity kit includes enough materials for up to 2 youth)  Materials can be picked up at the CCE Erie 4-H office (21 S. Grove St., East Aurora) on April 21, 2021.   We are unable to mail materials at this time.  You may also contact Megan Burley, 4-H Youth Development Educator, via email msb347@cornell.edu with questions or to register.  If you need accommodations please contact Megan at msb347@cornell.edu.
