Building a Community Legacy Together: Youth

Thank you for your interest in the Building a Community Legacy Together (BCLT) Program!

The BCLT Program is being sponsored by the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging (CITRA) as part of a pilot study to determine its impact on participants’ self-esteem, communication skills, and feelings toward the other age group.

To conduct this program, the Rockland County 4-H Program is recruiting 24 high school-aged youth and 24 seniors – half of whom will participate in the BCLT Program, and half of whom will serve as a control group for the study. Participants will be selected at random by the CITRA researchers.

Selected students who participate in the BCLT program will earn 15 hours of community service credit and a $10 stipend, and will develop interviewing and public speaking skills. Students who are in the control group will receive a $10 stipend for completing the pre- and post- surveys.

All participants in this study are crucial to the success of this research, which will help shed new light on the benefits of intergenerational programs. We therefore ask that you read and commit to the program requirements before registering.
