Nassau County 4-H Afterschool Program
The 4-H Afterschool programs are a series of six-week long special interest programs that are designed to engage youth in a topic of their choice. Our programs vary with the seasons, so check back often to see what’s new!
Session 1: February 28th - April 8th
Cloverbud Programs (5 - 8 Years Old)
Cloverbud Nature Crafts Mondays, Feb 28th - April 4th 4:00 - 5:00pm 5 - 8 Years Old Cost: $90
Students explore nature-based and nature-friendly art in many forms. In addition to the creation of artwork and crafts they can take home for use or display indoors or out, students find and prepare many of their art materials from natural or recycled sources.

Cloverbud Seasonal Explorations Tuesdays, March 1st - April 5th 4:00 - 5:00pm 5 - 8 Years Old Cost: $90
Students learn what makes each season special, from weather and traditional human activities to the behavior of living things outdoors. During the six weeks of this program, they closely observe the transition from winter to spring through the hands-on experiences of artwork, experiments, and outdoor play.

Outside In: Bringing Nature Indoors: Tuesdays, March 1st - April 5th 5:30 - 7:00pm 3rd - 7th Grade Cost: $175
Students explore the many ways we can bring nature and plants indoors. They learn to grow and propagate houseplants, grow herbs and greens in their kitchens, and create holiday decorations and garden artwork using plants and other natural materials

S.T.E.M. in Space Thursdays, March 3rd - April 7th 5:00 - 6:30pm 3rd - 7th Grade Cost: $175
Kids learn foundational STEM skills while they wrestle with the same questions as today’s top aerospace scientists and engineers! Featuring sessions from our 4-H Galactic Quest, Mars Space Kits and more. Youth will work as a hands on engineer would, while making a mechanical claw that works to harvest crops in space. Building telescopes to learn about physics and light, and board games focused on resource management designed to simulate the needs and work done in deep space.

Session 2: April 25th - June 3rd

Cloverbud Stories in the Garden Mondays, April 25th - May 30th 4:00 - 5:00pm 5 - 8 Years Old Cost: $90
Join us in one of our outdoor classroom spaces as we read stories and explore the gardens and wildlife around us. Each story will be accompanied by a hands-on activity.

Cloverbud All About Animals Tuesdays, April 26th - May 31st 4:00 - 5:00pm 5 - 8 Years Old Cost: $90
Do you have a natural bond or fascination with animals? In this program, you will explore the many types of relationships humans have with animals and see some of our favorite animals up close - gerbils, tarantulas, reptiles and insects! Learn about the habitats, needs and care of various animals from endangered species to your own household pets!

Seed to Salad Tuesdays, April 26th - June 14th (8 Weeks) 5:30 - 7:00pm 3rd - 7th Grade Cost: $175
In this special 8-week program from Cornell’s Garden-Based Learning curriculum, students plan, plant, harvest, and eat their salad from start to finish. In the process they learn cooking skills, explore new flavors, master the basics of vegetable garden care, and indulge in new, fun activities outdoors.
