Nassau County 4-H After School Programs

Nassau County 4-H Afterschool Program

The 4-H Afterschool programs are a series of six-week long special interest programs that are designed to engage youth in a topic of their choice.  Our programs vary with the seasons, so check back often to see what’s new!

 

Program Details:

Session 1: September 12th - October 28th, 2022

Cloverbud Seasonal Exploration:
Mondays, September 12th - October 24th*
*Note there is no class on Monday, October 10th
4:00pm – 5:00pm
K - 3rd Grade

What makes one season different from another? Explore the science that shapes natural rhythms in weather, animal activities, and plant cycles through outdoor observation, experiments, and games. Create crafts and artwork using season-specific themes and natural materials, and tasty snacks using seasonal food. 

Cost:  Each program is $90 per child 

 

Local Grown:
Tuesdays, September 13th - October 18th
5:00pm – 6:30pm
3rd - 8th Grade

This class will teach youth the fundamental skills to planning and growing your own food. Youth will learn how to plant seeds, care for growing plants, and harvest nutritious produce. Youth will take home nutritious recipes to share. 

Cost:  Each program is $175 per child 

 

Aquatic Afternoons: 
Wednesdays, September 14th - October 19th
5:00pm – 6:30pm 
3rd - 8th Grade

Do you love food as much as we do? In this workshop series, we will explore basic kitchen skills that you can use to make yummy and nutritious snacks. Topics will include food and kitchen safety, measuring ingredients, reading nutrition labels.

Cost:  Each program is $175 per child 

 

Teen Citizens:
Thursdays, September 15th - October 20th 
5:00pm - 6:30pm
7th - 12th Grade

The 4-H Citizenship programs empower young people to be well-informed citizens who are actively engaged in their communities and the world. Youth learn about civic affairs, build decision making skills and develop a sense of understanding and confidence in relating and connecting to other people.

Cost: Each program is $175 per child

 

Session 2: October 24th - December 2nd, 2022

Cloverbud All About Animals:
Mondays, October 24th - November 28th
4:00pm – 5:00pm
K - 3rd Grade

Youth will learn how to care for their pets, as well as the science and nature of companion animals. Pets may include cats, reptiles, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, and dogs. This project offers the opportunity to have some meaningful responsibility and take pride in caring for something alive. 

Cost:  Each program is $90 per child 

 

Illustrations:
Tuesdays, October 25th - November 29th
5:00pm – 6:30pm
3rd - 8th Grade

Explore one of the many careers in visual arts by creating your own series of illustrations, guided by a professional illustrator. Go from choosing a text, to defining a layout, sketching roughs, and rendering a final series of artworks. Your final product will be story book ready!

Cost:  Each program is $175 per child 

 

Cloverbud Nature Art:
Wednesdays, October 26th - November 30th
4:00pm – 5:00pm
K - 3rd Grade

Make projects for items from nature or recycled material. Explore the items used in your projects. Learn to express yourself creatively using items found in nature. Children learn to use a variety of artistic media, including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and more. 

Cost:  Each program is $90 per child 

 

Kids Cook:
Thursdays, October 27th - December 8th*
*Note there is no class on Thursday, November 24th
5:00pm – 6:30pm
3rd - 8th Grade
