Jefferson County 4-H Summer Programming (led by 4-H Educators)
4-H Go Club
Open to youth grades 5-8.
Experience the ancient strategy game of Go, the oldest board game still played today! Go, also known as Weiqi or Baduk, is the game which took the role of Chess in the eastern cultures of Japan, China, and Korea respectively. Played for over 2,500 years, with over 20 million players worldwide, Go is a fascinating game which is accessible to those of all ages.
In this program, students will be offered an opportunity to practice sequential, critical, and strategic thinking skills. Sessions will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM in the Johnson room at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County. A laptop is not required, but is highly recommended. It is not required to attend all sessions.
Whether you are a fan of chess who is interested in the similarities and differences it holds with this counterpart, are interested in learning more about Asian cultures, or simply have been curious ever since reading a volume of "Hikaru no Go" at the local library, we will be happy to introduce this incredible game.
