Nassau County 4-H After School Programs

Online:  Nassau County 4-H Afterschool Program

Session 3:  March 29, 2021 to May 7, 2021

The 4-H Afterschool programs are a series of six-week long special interest programs that are designed to engage youth in a topic of their choice.  Our programs vary with the seasons, so check back often to see what’s new!

Program Details:

Intro to Engineering:
Mondays, March 29th - May 3rd
5:30pm – 7:30pm
3rd - 8th Grade
Cost: $175 

Engineering is the branch of science and technology used in the design, building, and
use of engines, machines, and structures. Join us as we look at the objects and structures all around us that we use every day, that were in fact made by engineers. We will
be building simple structures like bridges, planes, and land vehicles and taking a closer look at all the moving parts and how it all works and comes together.

4-H Sampler: 
Tuesdays, March 30th - May 4th
5:30pm – 7:30pm
3rd - 8th Grade
Cost: $175 

Not sure what 4-H Program interests you? The 4-H sampler program will give you a taste of some of the current 4-H offering. Examples of topics over the course of the program will be Science, Gardening, Animals, Cooking and Art!

Wood Working:
Wednesdays, March 31st - May 5th
5:30pm – 7:30pm 
3rd - 8th Grade

Cost:  $175

Come join us as we use S.T.E.M. skills to properly measure, cut, and assemble simple woodworking projects and crafts. We will learn about simple architecture and safety when using hand tools.

Choose Health: Food, Fun & Fitness! (FREE):
Thursdays, April 1st - May 6th
5:00pm – 6:00pm
3rd - 8th Grade
Cost: FREE

This program series helps promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices in school-aged children. This program was developed by Cornell’s Division of Nutritional Sciences in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program

There is no cost to attend this program. Funding for this program is provided by the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)

Kitchen Science Club: 
Fridays, April 1st - May 7th
5:30pm – 7:30pm 
3rd - 8th Grade
Cost:  $175

Have you ever thought of food as science? In this club, we will discover basic chemistry, physics, and biology using common items from the kitchen. We will use different experiments to explore science in the kitchen with topics including gravity, physical changes of state, and temperature.

Cost:  Each program is $175 per child except the Choose Health: Food, Fun & Fitness program.
