Nassau County 4-H Entrepreneur Program

Nassau County 4-H Entrepreneur Program

The 4-H Entrepreneur Program gives teens (ages 13-18) a unique opportunity to be a part of a one-of-a-kind program that teaches agricultural, retail and advertising skills.   Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County and Nassau County 4-H.

The Entrepreneur Program is broken up into 3 tracks. On the registration form you will be prompted to pick your area of interest. Once the program starts you will have the choice to switch to another track if you wish. You can remain in the track if you desire.

Agricultural - Participants will have the chance to learn about planting, growing and harvesting your own produce.  The skills learned will expand into soil diagnostics, crop rotation and pest management.

Retail - Participants will learn the basics of customer service, pricing products, selling products, and money management.  These skills will expand into wholesale pricing, product ordering and coordination with suppliers. Skills learned in this area will be put to good use at the 4-H Farm Stand on Fridays.

Marketing - Participants will learn the basics of advertising, community outreach, and photographing events for future marketing. Participants may have their work published on CCE Nassau social media, website or on printed material.

The Entrepreneur Program will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, starting on Wednesday, June 21st.  The meetings will be from 4:00pm - 5:00pm and you do not need to attend all meetings to participate.  It would be helpful for you to attend at least one meeting a month to get the most out of this program.   Since these meetings will be held on a regular basis they do not require pre registration.

4-H Entrepreneur Farm Stand

The Farm Stand runs on Fridays starting July 7th and ending the end of October. It is open to the public from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and located at East Meadow Farm, 832 Merrick Avenue, East Meadow, NY

Retail help is needed from 3:30pm - 7:00pm on Farm Stand Friday's for setup, retail sales and breakdown.   Even if you are not interested in the retail track your skills learned with be used during this time in some way.

On the following registration form you will be given an option of days you would like to work at the farm stand.  Please sign up for at least five days.

The Entrepreneur Program will be an ongoing program that will continue after the farm stand season ends.
