The lifeguard class includes comprehensive training in water rescues, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid skills.

Pretest:  Upon arrival, participants will be required to pre-test for the course, which will consist of

  • Tread water for 2 minutes with no hands

This course will be held at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills, located at 4437 Kear Road, Canandaigua NY 14424, with classes running Sunday from 12pm-4pm, and Monday and Tuesday from 9am-5pm each day.  This course is designed as blended learning, meaning that participants will have coursework to complete online before attending the in-person sessions at camp.  Participants who do not complete the online materials in advance will be released from the program without certification, and no refunds will be provided.

Participants should be prepared to be in the pool for several hours each day (bring swimsuit and towel, sunscreen, etc), but should also bring a change of dry clothes for the classroom portions of the training.

During the course, participants will receive

  • ARC Lifeguarding Book
  • CPR Breathing Barrier
  • Whistle and Lanyard
  • Fanny Pack

Participants have the option to pre-order boxed lunches from Wegmans on the registration form.   Orders for lunches will be placed one week before the course.  Registrations received AFTER the order is made will be responsible for bringing their own lunch.  Overnight accommodations will also be available, for a fee of $25/night.  Participants will be housed in our Gleason Lodge, which provides double occupancy room with bunk beds, and access to a kitchenette, bathrooms and showers.  Overnight guests would be responsible for bringing their own bedding (Sleeping bag, or blanket and sheets) as well as any foods and personal items.
