2021 Summer/Fall Course and Events Brochure

Are you ready for some low-tech, in-person, hands-on gardening classes?

Season Extension and Low Tunnel Construction for Fall Vegetables
Saturday, August 21st
1 to 3 p.m.
CCE Broome Ag. Development Center

Now is the time to start your cool season vegetables for a fall harvest.  You can easily add 2 weeks to the start and end of the growing season by the use of low tunnels, (frost blankets with supports). Construct you own 4 ft. low tunnel hoops and learn tips and techniques from Master Gardener Volunteers at Cutler Botanic Garden.  Hoop material, ½ inch EMT, will be provided.  Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of garden gloves. A portion of the class will be held indoors and a portion outdoors.  The cost of this class is $20 per person and includes 3 hoops. Each hoop is 4 ft. wide, 4 ft. tall. Additional hoops will be available at the class for $6 each. Class size is limited to 15 so pre-registration is required. Registration will close 2 business days prior.

 Tree Identification Walk
Thursday, August 26th
6 to 7:30 pm
Cutler Botanic Garden grounds

Take a guided walk through Cutler Botanic Garden and learn some tree identification techniques and how to use an identification key for some of our native species.  Class will be held rain or shine and will meet at the entrance to Cutler Botanic Garden.  Please dress for the weather.  (In the event of a thunderstorm, class will be cancelled). The cost of the class in $10 per person. Class size is limited to 15 so pre-registration is required. Registration will close 2 business days prior.

 Perennials Care Workshop
Saturday, September 18th    
1 to 2:30 pm
Cornell Cooperative Extension Ag. Development Center

Are your perennial beds getting a bit out of control?  Come and learn about perennial bed care in the fall.  Plant division, bed rejuvenation and problem solving will be demonstrated and discussed.  Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of garden gloves. Cost of this class is $10 per person. Class size is limited to 15 so pre-registration is required. Registration will close 2 business days prior.

 Grapevine Crafts       
Saturday, October 23rd          
1 to 2:30 pm
Cornell Cooperative Extension Ag. Development Center 

A make and take workshop for grapevine crafts.  Learn to identify wild grape vines and make a grapevine wreath.  Suitable for ages 10 and up with accompanying adult. Please bring a pair of pruning shears and garden gloves.  Cost of the class is $10 per person. Class size is limited to 15 so pre-registration is required. Registration will close 2 business days prior.

Cancellations will be accepted up to 2 business days prior - and a refund will be issued. Any closer to the event we cannot accept cancellations as workshop supplies will have already been purchased.
