Learn all you need to know to start your own garden vegetable or flower plants from seed indoors. Seed starting mixes, lighting needs and after-care of seedlings will be explained. Gain hands-on experience as you sow seeds in a six-pack container. (Seeds will be provided or you can bring your own.) Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Cost is $10 per household to cover cost of materials. Limit 15
Pruning Trees and Shrubs
Saturday, March 16th

CCE Broome Auditorium
Work with Master Gardeners in CBG learning proper techniques pruning trees and shrubs. Learn how, why and when to prune, proper tools, tool maintenance, etc. We will be going out to the gardens for the second hour so please dress for the weather. (In the event of rain/snow cancellation, class will not be rescheduled.) Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Cost is $10 per household. Please bring a pair of garden gloves and hand pruners. Limit 15
Season Extension and Low Tunnel Construction

Cutler Botanic Garden grounds
You can easily add 2 weeks to the start and end of the growing season by the use of low tunnels, frost blankets with supports. Construct you own 4 ft. low tunnel hoops and learn tips and techniques from Master Gardener Volunteers at Cutler Botanic Garden. Hoop material, ½ inch EMT, will be provided. Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of garden gloves. The cost of this class is $15 per household and includes 3 hoops. Each hoop is 4 ft. wide, 4 ft. tall. Additional hoops will be available at the class for $5 each. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Limit 12
Building and Planting in Raised Beds

Learn about the benefits of growing in a raised bed and how to construct a raised bed that suits your needs. Learn space requirements for most common vegetables plants. Rain Barrels and Irrigation

Learn what you need to know about adding a rain water collection and irrigation system to your yard.
We will discuss the problems of storm water runoff and ways to mitigate them. Then we will visit the newly developed Rainwater Collection and Irrigation Demonstration site and other irrigation systems at Cutler Botanic Garden. The cost of this class is $10 per household. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Limit 15.

Get growing and planting advice from Master Gardeners; enjoy a stroll around Cutler Botanic Garden, visit the Farmers Market then take home some purchased plants to grow in your own garden. Come early for the best selection. Carts/wagons are welcome. Proceeds support operations of Cutler Botanic Garden.

Composting Made Easy

If you’ve considered composting at home but were not sure how to get started, or tried it and became discouraged, join us for the Composting Made Easy workshop. We’ll explain what to compost and demonstrate how to mix materials and manage the compost so you get the results you desire.
