Canning and Freezing Classes with Master Preserver Ann Supa
Come and learn proper techniques for both hot water bath canning and freezing fresh produce. See what types of equipment are required and maintenance to keep them working properly. You will get recipes, learn food preparation techniques and bring home a sample of what is made that night.

Herbs and How To Use Them Thursday, July 25th, 6:30 to 7:30 pm Cornell Cooperative Extension Auditorium Cost: $10 per person
Many of us routinely use herbs for cooking, but herbs have a long history of use that has nothing to do with flavoring food. Master Gardener and herb enthusiast Elaine Gregory will explore the benefits of some common herbs – many that we consider weeds and many that we find close to home.
Herbal First Aid Kit Workshop Thursday, August 8th, 6:30 to 7:30 pm Cornell Cooperative Extension Lawrence Conference Room Cost: $5 per person to cover cost of materials
Learn to create your own herbal first aid kit. Master Gardener and herb enthusiast Elaine Gregory will demonstrate how with just three items you will be equipped to handle minor stings, scraps and cuts. Participants will take home an oil for bug bites, an antiseptic spray and an herbal salve. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Class cap: 8
Hypertufa or Leaf Castings Workshop Wednesdays, August 14th and 21st, 6:30 pm Cornell Cooperative Extension Ag. Development Center Cost: $15 to cover cost of materials
Join Master Gardeners for a two-part workshop to make your own hypertufa planter or leaf casting. Week 1, we will be mixing the hypertufa ingredients and casting the molds. Dry time is needed before casts can be moved. Week 2 will be adding the finishing touches. Attendance to both classes required. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Class cap: 12
10th Annual Fresh Food Face Off Tuesday, September 24th, 5 to 8 pm Broome County Regional Farmers Market/Cutler Botanic Garden
Come and enjoy the beauty of Cutler Botanic Garden while attending the signature fundraiser of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County. Local chefs are challenged to create the “Best Taste” using local, in-season ingredients while being paired with NYS wines and beers. Local dignitaries award the “Best Taste”; attendees award the “People’s Choice”. Enjoy the premiere local foods scene while supporting programming in our community. Are your perennial beds getting a bit out of control? Come and learn about perennial bed care in the fall. Plant division, bed rejuvenation and problem solving will be demonstrated and discussed. Grapevine Crafts Saturday, October 26th, 1 to 2 pm Cornell Cooperative Extension Ag. Development Center Cost: $10 to cover materials
A make and take workshop for grapevine crafts. Learn to make a grapevine wreath, ball or wattle fence. Suitable for ages 10 and up with accompanying adult. Please bring a pair of pruning shears and garden gloves. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Class cap: 15
