2018 Winter Gardening Workshops

 

Building a Better Tomato Cage -- Three Spots Remaining

Tired of those wimpy wire tomato cages? Construct your own cages from concrete rebar wire with the help of Master Gardener Volunteers and CCE Staff.  Each finished cage is 5 ft. tall and 2 ft. in diameter so you will need a vehicle that these will fit in.  All materials and tools needed are provided.  Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of garden gloves. Cost for this class is $15 and includes 2 cages. Additional cages may be available for $5 each. We will also cover some tips on growing tomatoes.  Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Class limit 12.

Back by popular demand.

You can easily add 2 weeks to the start and end of the growing season by the use of low tunnels, frost blankets with supports.  Construct you own 4 ft. low tunnel hoops and learn tips and techniques from Master Gardener Volunteers at Cutler Botanic Garden.  Hoop material, ½ inch EMT, will be provided.  Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of garden gloves. The cost of this class is $15 and includes 3 hoops. Each hoop is 4 ft. wide, 4 ft. tall. Additional hoops will be available at the class for $5 each. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Class limit 15.

Herbs, perennials, shrubs, roses and ornamental grasses are just a sampling of what you’ll find at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Plant Sale.  Get growing and planting advice from Master Gardeners; enjoy a stroll around Cutler Botanic Garden, then take home some purchased plants to grow in your own garden.  Come early for the best selection.  Carts/wagons are welcome. Proceeds support operations of Cutler Botanic Garden. Please note new time – 2 to 5 p.m.
