2018 4-H Standardbred Program

2018 Standardbred Program, to be held on Friday, April 27th

Program is $5.00.  Lunch is being provided with your Registration.

Erin Morgan-Paugh is an associate professor of equine rehabilitation and exercise physiology. Erin is originally from Connecticut, where her passion for horses began riding English pleasure horses. Erin fostered this interest as an undergraduate student at Cornell University, where she gained experience with clinical research on horse allergies while completing her degree. Following her undergraduate schooling, Erin attended Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine. With a focus on equine medicine, Erin completed her veterinary degree.

Following veterinary school, Erin continued her training as a rotating large animal medicine and surgery intern at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Canada. Working with the superb Large Animal Surgery department at the Ontario Veterinary College, Erin developed a strong interest in equine lameness. Following her internship, Erin worked as an associate veterinarian in private practice, focusing on lameness and rehabilitation of horses.

While working in private practice, Erin completed training at the Animal Rehab Institute in Loxahatchee, Florida to become a certified rehabilitation therapist. While studying at the Animal Rehab Institute, Erin gained ample knowledge and experience with equine rehabilitation modalities.

Erin began teaching at the Equine Rehabilitation Center at Morrisville State College part-time in the fall of 2012 and became a full-time member of the rehab center in January of 2013.

 The Equine Rehabilitation Center. We will be visiting the Standardbred facilities where youth will be able to interact with the Morrisville horses, the college students and staff to learn about their breeding program, the racing industry, and possible career opportunities within the Standardbred Industry.  In addition to a tour, youth and their chaperones will also get to see live demonstrations, as well as, see all the parts of the Standardbred program in motion. While the focus of the clinic will be on Standardbred equine education, we will also be visiting the Equine Rehabilitation Center and additional horse barns. The Equine Rehabilitation Center is often used by students and horses who are in the Equine Racing Management major, so youth will be able to see all the aspects of the Standardbred racing program, from breeding to rehabilitation and maintenance. We have arranged for Dr. Morgan and staff to guide us through a tour with demonstration of the Equine Rehabilitation Center.

Thank you to the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund
