Recyclable Chopped

You’re all familiar with the cooking show Chopped? Contestants are given a basket of ingredients and they have to come up with a new recipe incorporating those ingredients.  Well, here is your early childhood activities version!!! We will provide the recyclables.  Your job is to come up with a developmentally appropriate activity, game, art project that you can do with your children.  This workshop is a hands-on opportunity to explore and play and see the world through children’s eyes! We are also being environmentally friendly using things in a new way; a great opportunity to teach caring for our world. Practice using your imagination and bring to life new engaging activities for your program.

Storytime Yoga

Carol LaFache, YogaTales by Carol

Let’s Get Our Inner Yogi On   This presentation will offer a fun, new twist on working with stories through the very physical movement of yoga.  Yes, kids love stories, but kids love being ‘in’ the stories even more.  Along with producing healthier bodies this approach improves reading comprehension and developing the children’s creative minds.   Participants will have hands on experience acting out familiar children’s stories with yoga poses that depict problem, setting, characters, plot, sequence and resolution. Wow! So grab a yoga mat and start breathing!

Audience: Family/Group Family Child Care; Center Staff & Directors; School Age Staff & Directors, Preschool; LE; Parents

Topic Areas: OCFS 2, 3 CBK 4, 5 CDA 2

Not-So-Spooky Social-Emotional Skills

Ellen Olson

Children’s behavior is often a terrifying mystery to adults.  During this hands on workshop we will explore our expectations and challenging behaviors.  Like magic we will look at some things we can do right now to prevent and reduce challenging behaviors.  We will look at ways that we can help children learn appropriate skills like emotion recognition, emotion regulation, problem solving skills and social skills that children need to be successful learners.  Behavior is not so scary after all. Bippity, Bobbity Boo-ya!

Audience:  Family/Group Family Child Care; Center Staff & Directors; School Age Staff & Directors, Preschool; LE; Parents

Topic Areas: OCFS 1,3 CBK 1,4 CDA 3,8

Processed Foods: Friend or Foe?

Is processed food your friend or foe? In this training we will be discussing the different types of processed foods, how to identify processed foods and how to read food labels. We will also be discussing tips and tricks to help with those picky eaters you might have in your programs and look at a variety of meal planning options. Participants who are enrolled with CACFP through CCE will receive credit for this as part of their annual training requirement for the 2018-2019 year.
