Parents Supporting Early Literacy – Parenting practices and behaviors are predictors of children’s readiness and success in school. Learn how parenting educators can help parents nurture early literacy and school readiness.

Working with Diverse Families– Review research on current trends in structures, including stepfamilies, kinship caregiving, incarcerated parents, etc. Learn and practice skills for working with families with diverse structures, situations, and cultures.

Supporting children’s social and emotional development - Learn and practice tools to help parents learn how to teach and support children’s ability to interact positively with others, self-regulate their behavior, and effectively communicate their feelings.

Positive Discipline – using consequences appropriately – Positive discipline provides structure and guidance to help children learn and manage appropriate behaviors. But, parents will still want to know what to do when children misbehave. This workshop will help educators develop skills for teaching about natural and logical consequences and positive time-out.

Understanding Addictions – Alcohol and other substance use, abuse, and addiction have impacts on family dynamics. This workshop will help participants to gain a basic understanding of use, abuse and addiction to inform their work with families.
